Haley Sessoms

info // cv

Haley Sessoms is a lens-based fine artist from Roanoke, Virginia. She is currently receiving her BFA in Photography with dual minors in Museum and Gallery Practices and Art History at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY.  Her work is heavily inspired by notions of home, memory, and opacity in response to the natural world.  She further explores these themes through film, writing, painting, and textiles.

Her photographs have been published in Suboart Magazine, her poem “Willow” in Quilted Hearts under Eber & Wein Publishing and she is currently experimenting with artist books. Her photograph “raisin rage” was recently exhibited alongside 100 artists in the group show, The Collective with The Visionary Projects at the High Line Nine Galleries in Chelsea, New York.

In October of 2024, her first solo exhibition was with Pratt Institute’s Photo Gallery, showcasing 22 images from The Photographs Belong to the Family. These images are inspired by the complex dynamics that exist within familial relationships, especially as a biracial woman, sister, daughter, and aunt. Aiming to visualize and communicate the conversations we avoid with the people we love, she hopes this collaboration with her family only expands as this is an ongoing project.
